Some times I wonder about us! We decided a few weeks ago to throw a big Halloween party and then the work and planning started. It’s hard! Parties like these are not easy to throw! But, in the end we had the best time gathering all our friends and family together for a fun time! It was so worth the time and energy, and even a 3 hour rain storm. Join us as we give you a tour of what we did and hopefully this will give you some ideas for any activities you are planning.
Jessica has the perfect house to throw a spooky soiree with all the trees, falling leaves, and creepy dark corners. As you drove up to her home this is what you saw.
Using dollar store black poster board and yellow plastic table cover we created these silhouettes for pennies. We put a lamp behind the windows and wahlah! a creepy fun scene among all the dollar store headstones.
We had everyone go down the side path to the backyard. Everyone hesitated going down! Hee, hee!
Once in the back yard this is what you saw.
A fun Halloween lab with covered bowls to stick your hands in to figure out what’s inside. Here’s what we had:
- Cold Ramen noodles as veins
- Peeled grapes as eyeballs
- Popcorn seeds as pieces of bone
We had a spider web obstacle course.
A witch stirring her potions in her cauldron. We used glow sticks under the wood to look like a fire and in the caldron with water and dry ice for a bubbly mixture.
A spooky glow in the dark backdrop for pictures.
Lots of finger foods and drinks including mummy dogs, teethy doughnuts, smoky root beer, apple cider and popcorn.
There were old windows and doors here and there. Lighted pumpkins in the trees, hay bales, and heavy fog from a fog machine.
We even had Casper playing on a blowup movie screen like this one!
Our tables were covered with candles, moss, and spookified photos. You can see how we made those here.
For the kids we played a few games like:
- Stick the wart on the witches nose. Played like pin the tail on the donkey, but use small pieces of green play dough and stick them to a laminated picture of a witch.
- Hide and seek skeletons. We bought three jointed skeletons (white, green, and orange) at the dollar store. We separated the pieces and hid them all over the yard. We divided the group into three teams and gave each team a flashlight. Whichever team found their color skeleton pieces and put the skeleton back together were the winners.
- Here’s a pumpkin tic tac toe board we had for them, too.
We all had a blast and created tons of memories. From Polka Dot Poplars to you…..
Happy Halloween!
What a fun party that must have been! Your decorations were awesome!
Thanks Jeanette. We had an awesome time!
There was a period like coming happening following a delightful idea for a blog was middle of the road to delay through the blogosphere. Regardless, these days there are thusly many blogging locales that you have to consent to on reality of just an immense idea!
Extraordinary post yet I was considering whether you could make genuinely seriously in regards to this matter? I’d be appreciative if you could explain truly further.
Thanks for sharing such a valuable post. Please keep us updated for future posts.
