Welcome Wreath Tutorial

Back in the old days people used to burn candles in their windows as a sign of welcome to a weary traveler and to represent warmth and a loving family inside. Today I still see a few homes using electric candle lights instead, but I’ve always loved the idea behind this old tradition. Wreaths made of embroidery hoops are really popular right now and I wondered if I could combine this kind of wreath with a welcome candle. I knew there were clip on wireless candles and decided I would use those on the wreath and am thrilled with how they came out.

If you want to make a few of your own here’s what I did:

Welcome Wreath Supplies

wreath supplies

  • 12 inch embroidery hoop
  • clip on LED candles (link is below to buy yours)
  • wide ribbon for hanging
  • thin ribbon for wrapping
  • greenery and berries
  • thin wire
  • scissors
  • glue gun

Welcome Wreath Directions

  • The lights are very user friendly and run on remote. I made two wreaths so used the rest of the lights on a Christmas tree. They require two AA batteries and the clip just slides on the bottom.

LED Candle Lights

  • The hoops come in two pieces and you only need one to make a wreath. If you use the one with the screw attachment make sure to keep it at the center top while making your wreath.

hoops

  • The inside wire on the greenery was very thick and I was unable to cut it, so I just folded it back. It added some fullness and strength so I’m glad it worked out that way. Use a 12″ piece of your thin wire and start wrapping it around the greener and the hoop. I don’t recommend using a glue gun to attach the greenery because it won’t hold onto the thin wood hoop.

greenery for Christmas

  • Leave a space between the two pieces of greenery for the clip on candle.

  • Hot glue one end of the thin ribbon to the beginning of one wired section of the greenery. Start wrapping it around and around the stem and the hoop until you get to the other side. Glue in place.

wrapped ribbon around the hoop

  • If desired, knot another piece of ribbon around the center if you want some ribbon hanging. Push the knot towards the front to make room for the candle clip.

  • Clip on the candle light. They adjust so move it so the candle is even and straight.

  • Attach a piece of thick ribbon to the top of the hoop. You will need to measure the space you’re hanging it in and cut the length you need.
  • Hang in place with a staple gun or thumb tacks.

I love it and am thrilled with the look. What do you think?

Here’s another fun light option to add warmth to your home.
