Hi Friends! Today I have a pallet wood United States of America. I’ve been seeing different variations of the USA used in every day home décor, so I came up with this idea.
Creating with pallet wood has been very popular the last few years and I love the look they give, but have you ever tried to break apart a pallet? They are meant to be strong and sturdy and are a pain to cut apart. So, instead of pallet wood I use cedar fencing found at home improvement stores. It gives the same look and is easy to cut and work with. I’ve got a scroll saw that I use, but you could also use a band saw or jig saw.
I start by cutting the cedar fencing into thinner strips. Some times I use equal widths and other times I vary the widths. Here’s some that I sold that have some wider widths intermingled with thin strips.
Then I attach the strips onto a 1/4″ plywood using wood glue.
After the glue has dried apply your pattern. I found this pattern in images when I googled USA clipart. I then saved it, enlarged it, and printed it. Mine measures approximated 22″ wide and 15″ long. You will need to tape all the printed pieces together and cut it out so that you can draw around it.
Cut out your USA.
There are so many things you can do to decorate your USA. You could leave them the way they are, use Mod Podge to attach strips of scrapbook paper to each strip, or even applying wallpaper. For mine I use paint. I’ve been thrilled to be able to buy sample sized latex paint at Home Depot. They can even mix them in the colors you want.
I then sand around the edges of the USA and rough up the paint a little. You could even stain it for a more rustic look. So fun!
