Do you know what fusible webbing is? In my experience not many people know what this is or have ever used it. Fusible webbing is kind of like fabric interfacing which adds some strength and stiffness to clothing and fabric usually in collars or cuffs. Webbing is an iron on adhesive that attaches two pieces of fabric together and also adds stiffness and strength. There are several different brands and can be found on a bolt or in packages at the fabric store.
I’ve used this product in many of my crafts like applique, making costumes, and stuffed animal ears. Here is a sample of how it can be used.
Adhering two different fabrics together is just one of the things you can do. Look how stiff the webbing makes the pinwheel.
I layered fused fabric petals together to make this flower on the headband. The webbing helps the fabric roll, if desired, to make the petals more realistic.
To fuse your fabric simply:
- Lay your fabric, right side down, on your ironing board
- Place the adhesive side of the webbing against the back of the fabric
- Press with a hot iron on the paper side across the paper
- Let cool
- Remove the paper and lay the other piece of fabric, right side up, on top of the webbing and press for a few minutes to adhere
- Again, let cool
You are now ready to use.

To make the feather I cut a feather shape and notched the edges. I then wrapped a candy stick in washi tape and sewed it to the back of the feather.
One of the funnest things to do is to make flowers.
I use chipboard to make different petal templates. I then trace these on my fused fabric with pencil.
I used five petals for this flower but you could always add more. Cut out your petals and add a running stitch to each of your petals. Pull your thread to gather the bottom of the petals and stitch them into a circle.
For the backs of most of my flowers I add a small chipboard circle covered with fabric.
The flowers make a cute addition to this pillow. I added several pom poms to the centers.
