Fall Paper Leaf Garland

The leaves are starting to turn and I am thrilled! Fall is my favorite season! So, today I thought I would share this Fall paper leaf garland that is easy and very inexpensive to make. You should make one or more for yourself.

Here’s what you need:

  • An old book you’re no longer needing
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam Brush
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Floral Wire
  • Floral Tape

First, you’ll need to pull some pages from your book. Using Mod Podge attach three pages together. If you are going to paint the leaves with acrylic paint don’t brush the Mod Podge on the top or bottom of the stack. I made about 28 sets. Let dry. (I like the thicker look of the the three pages together and it’s more sturdy than using just one page.)

If you have an electronic cutter you can use it to cut your leaf shapes or you can find leaf patterns on line to make a template and then cut them out.

At this time you can leave the leaves plain or you can paint them. I chose gold, burnt orange, and red paints and watered them down using a ratio of one part paint and two parts water. Brush your paint on one side of the leaves, let dry, and paint the other side.

Hot glue the 9″ pieces of wire to the back of each of the leaves.

To create the garland start with one leaf and wrap your floral tape around the wire. When you are about a third of the way down the wire add another leaf. Continue wrapping the tape around both leaves lightly stretching the tape as you go. Add additional leaves as you go until the whole garland is created.

Arrange and bend the leaves in the way you would like and hang on a mantle or over a doorway. I put mine around a chalkboard.

This has made me anxious to get the rest of my fall decorations out. Have you done your fall decorating yet?
