Cleaning Old Wood Furniture

Do you love old furniture and accessories?  I sure do and always have.  I just try to imagine the history of each special piece.  Our family business is selling some of what we collect.  It’s such a rush to find old treasures.  Quite often it’s hard to sell what we find and every now and then I find a piece that will stay with us forever.  This antique rocking horse is one of them.  I was thrilled to find it.  It’s missing it’s head and the paint is pretty much worn off, but I’m in love.

4th Of July Decor Idea

Happy Summer Everyone!

I haven’t collected a lot of 4th of July decor items throughout my life.  I mainly decorate with item I already have that are red, white, and blue.  Throw a few flags in and I’m done decorating.  This year I thought I would take it a bit further and make this:

Thrift Store Adventure

(I hope you don’t mind, but this post has an overabundance of photos.)

We have an obsession in our family.  I think a good obsession.  Shopping in thrift stores!  To me it’s the thrill of the hunt and saving money.  I have a routine I follow when I go because there are a lot of people who shop there who look for the same kinds of things I do, so it’s all about speed in my mind.  I go in the order of most importance for the things I want.  That will be different for everyone.  I’ve gotten to the point where I can scan the aisles pretty quickly, but I know there are times that I miss things.  If I have time I will slow down or go through for a second time.   Here’s my typical routine:

First, I take a peek into the collectible area.  Most every thrift store I’ve been to has one.  I am a vintage and collectible dealer so I look for a good deal there.  If something seems high in price check the date on the tag.  If it’s been sitting in the cabinet for a while they may lower the price for you. (“May” is the magic word.)

Picnic Caddy

A lot of our picnics and BBQ’s are impromptu and spur of the moment ideas.  We would grab our paper supplies and throw them in a grocery sack and off we’d go or we would take an arm load of supplies to the backyard and then when the wind would catch napkins, etc. it would be a constant chase around the yard.  Know the feeling?

I found this wooden tool box at the thrift store and decided it was the perfect size for a picnic supply caddy.
