Side Table Makeover

Hello Friends! Today I want to show you my side table makeover. Some times I wish I had the budget to go and buy brand new furniture, but I’ve made the decision to try and change my old things into something that’s fresh and current.

What do you think?

Here’s what my table looked like before. It’s not bad, but I wanted something a bit more farmhousy. (That’s a word right?) I originally got it from a thrift store years ago and it looked brand new. It’s sturdy and heavy and has a lot of life left in it.

First I painted it in a red latex that has primer in it to match some other decor items I have.

Then I purchased some 1″x4″ pine and had it cut into the correct size for the top of my table. I sanded them well and then stained them by rubbing on Minwax Wood Finish Stain in the color Early American.

When the boards were dry I placed them on the top of the table where I wanted them and wood glued them down. I also screwed them down with 1 1/2 inch screws. I like the rustic look they give. I could always putty the holes if I decide to later.

That it! So easy. It looks great in our family room.

Take an old table and give it a makeover farmhouse style.

  1. I’m thoroughly impressed by your clever table makeover using simple pine boards to add a rustic edge! You made a stylish transformation seem so effortless and achievable. I love how you walked through selecting the perfect wood stain to match existing décor – those thoughtful design details make ALL the difference for a cohesive room.

And sealing raw planks with bold red latex primer before attaching them shows great foresight to prevent future damage. That rich pop of color peeking out from the natural wood grain takes the industrial edge up another notch! I may just have to borrow this paint technique for my next furniture flip…

Your tip to screw the reclaimed boards in place for stability but leave the holes visible for now allows for flexibility later on if you want a more polished look. I personally love the textural contrast they add! This kind of intentional versatility makes a room enduring.

Thank you for generously sharing such an easy, budget-friendly makeover that still appears supremely custom.

  2. I am very happy to visit your blog, It tells me a lot of useful information. I will regularly visit the blog to support you.
