Apple Crisp

I don’t know what it is about Fall and the weather getting colder, but every year at this time I feel like cooking and baking.  Maybe it’s that “gathering for winter” mentality that squirrels have or the weather not being warm enough to be out in and I’m bored.  Do you get like this?

Anywho….I made some Apple Crisp tonight and it’s delish!  The apples on my tree have been ready for a few weeks and I hate to see them go to waste.  I also plan on getting some Applesauce canned soon.   Have you ever tried crockpot oatmeal and warm chunky applesauce on top.  Yep!  It’s as good as it sounds.

Here’s the recipe for the Apple Crisp.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.  Happy Fall Y’all!

6 apples – peeled, cored, and sliced

2 tablespoons white sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup old-fashioned oats

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup cold butter

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Toss apples with white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl to coat; pour into a 9-inch square baking dish.
  • Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a separate bowl. Use a pastry cutter or 2 forks to mash cold butter into the oats mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs; spread over the apples to the edges of the baking dish. Pat the topping gently until even.
  • Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and sides are bubbling, about 40 minutes.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream or whip cream.
