It’s Day Two of our Christmas Countdown. We are having a blast! Christmas has always been my favorite. I especially love the reason we celebrate this day, but it’s also that Christmas touches every sense we have. It envelops our whole body. There is so much beauty to be seen with the lights and decor, listening to incredible music we save for just this time of year, the touch of a hug from all we meet, tasty food and treats, and then there’s the smells….Oh the smells. The scents of pine, spice, and orange are my favorites and brings back so many memories.
I remember the first time I made an orange and clove pomander in elementary school. The smells in the classroom were so good.
In my goal to simplify my life I’ve decided to go with a more organic and natural feel for my Christmas decorating this year. These oranges have added a pop of color and you should smell my house. I love when I can accomplish two things at a time.
Here’s what I did:
Using a citrus peeler I scraped a design into my oranges. Be sure to keep the peels. Place them in a bowl and put in another room for an additional orangy smell.
Next, insert whole cloves in a design around your orange. You can find whole cloves at any grocery store. I’m always amazed they don’t break, but they are strong little buggers.
I like to make each orange a little different to add variety. While I was creating these last night I was listening to Christmas music and just enjoying the spirit of the holiday. I love moments like these. These are also perfect for a family night where everyone can get involved.
Last year Jessica showed us what she was doing for neighbor gifts which go right along with this post.
Jessica always has the perfect touch for gift giving. She puts a lot of thought into what she does. I know! I have been a recipient of her love.
Remember to slow down, turn on the Christmas carols, and enjoy this time!
See ya tomorrow.
