This is a post I recently did for What’s Cooking With Ruthie.
I’m ready for Spring to be here already. Are you? Here in Utah we’ve had a lot of snow and cold weather and I can tell by my moods that I need some sunshine soon. Fortunately we are having some great weather this weekend. It’s about time!
So, I thought it would be fun to show you how I’m bringing Spring into my home a little early.
You will find over time that I like to do everything as cheaply as possible especially my decorating. I just don’t have a huge budget for this kind of thing. I have a feeling it’s that way for most of us. It’s just not feasible to buy new furniture or paint a whole room for each season. Here are some tips I’ve learned to freshen and brighten up my home in time for the warmer months ahead.
Throw back those curtains! Pull up the blinds! Let that light in!
There may still be snow on the ground or dark clouds in the sky, but any light is better than no light. I like to also open a window or two for just a few minutes to let that fresh air in. Once it warms up my windows are wide open.
I take off the flannel sheets and heavy quilts when it starts to warm up and replace them with clean white sheets and brighter blankets and pillows. Changing the throw pillows on your furniture is also an easy way to brighten a room.
Brighten up your walls with a change of art. One of my favorite ways of doing this is by utilizing the free printables you can find online. Do a search on your search engine or even better, Pinterest, and you will find a free printable for just about anything (owls, quotes and sayings, etc.) In my case I searched for “botanicals” and found several. I printed them out and framed them. (Most of my frames are from the thrift store.)
Accessorizing is the best part of decorating, I think. I keep a few boxes of fun Spring items that I pull out and spread around. Many times I will shop my home for other items that will work. All of these items I found in thrift stores or were on sale during seasonal closeouts.
Painting a piece of furniture can make huge changes to a room. Paint is one of my good friends. I even like to move my furniture around every so often to help keep things exciting.
Fresh scents from a candle or sachet can make your home smell like Spring.
I love grabbing some fresh flowers at the store or some twigs from the yard to brighten up a room.
I made this 3-D piece of art using some moss covered rocks and a silk flower from the dollar store.
And one last thing….
Fresh veggies and fruit from the garden is the ultimate, but it’s hard to wait for harvest time. At the beginning of Spring I’m ready for more freshness in my food. I love the yummy soups, stews, breads, and heavier dishes but I find myself craving salads and grilled foods. Grabbing the fixings for a big salad at the store is the next best thing and it gets me in the mood for those longer and sunny days.
Well, there’s my ideas. I would love to hear what you are doing.
In the mean time stay warm and hopefully Spring will come sooner than later.
I love these ideas. Especially the salad. I’m with you… I’m a huge fan of comfort food but I’m starting to crave something lighter!
Thanks Elizabeth. I’m getting more and more antsy for warmer weather.
Grateful to you for some other useful site. The spot else might just I grasp that sort of data written in such a flawless procedure? I have an endeavor that I am essentially now running on, and I’ve been at the post for such data.
