Several Stocking Ideas

On Christmas morning the first thing our family does is check our stockings. It’s so fun to see the little gifts hidden inside. I got wondering if anyone uses anything other than stockings and found some great ideas. Here are the Christmas stocking alternatives I found. You will also find a variety of Christmas stocking ideas from my blogging friends below.

It’s Day 12 and we are ready to Hang the Stockings by the Chimney with Care!

There are several stories about the history of stockings that go back hundreds of years. One story suggests that little girls hung their stockings to dry Christmas Eve and the next morning they found gold coins in them. Eventually word spread that Santa will come if you hang stockings. Later, kids made sure to have stockings hanging to make sure Santa would visit.

Have you ever thought about using something other than stockings to hang at Christmas? I really haven’t because stockings were always a tradition in our family, but it’s always fun to change things up.

Some cultures put out shoes or boots for St. Nicholas to fill. Here are some ideas using that idea.

I really like the idea of using printed muslin bags that can be taken to someone or for a one time use.

Dru About Dru

There are so many things I could say but I will just start with the basics. Mother to 4. Grandmother to 11 (Yes, 11. All under the age of 9.) I am a former Army wife and we spent 15 years traveling around the world. It was such a thrill to have seen so many places and meeting lifetime friends. I spent many years working in the craft industry and love getting together with friends and creating. I have a lifelong love of thrift shops, antiques, and yard sales.

Comments

  1. Great ideas! I love the Christmas boots and the oven mitts. Clever!

  2. Oh wow, there are some very unique ideas here! I’m thinking despite the shoes being the smallest stockings, they probably have the fanciest loot. Wishing you a Merry Christmas 🙂

  3. I love all these alternative stocking ideas! I might just do this, if/when we have grandchildren. They can have their regular stocking at their place and have something fun and different at Grandma and Grandpa’s place.

  4. Wow, what fun ideas! We use beach buckets at Easter at my mom’s instead of baskets since they live on the beach. Beach buckets at Christmas time would be fun too!

  5. There are some very cute ideas here. My favorites are the oven mitts and Santa hats.

  6. These are some really unique ideas! Thank you for sharing!
