Hello Friends! I’m excited to be a part of a fun Summer tablescape blog hop. Creating tablescapes is one of my favorite things to do. Many times it’s all the decor I put out for a holiday. I feel that taking the time and a little effort sure adds fun to the event and helps to make it a lasting memory for those who are part of it. As they say and I agree, “It’s the little things.”

For my tablescapes I like to start by gathering items I already have around the house in the colors or style I’m going for and then fill in with a few purchased items, if necessary.
I love all things vintage and old so thought I would go for a good old fashioned 4th of July feel.
Tip: Having an idea or theme in mind can help you come up with ideas.
I have this old red toy truck which just feels all american. Can you just imagine driving down an old country road in a real old red truck like this? I made this the focal point.
Tip: Use what you already have. Here are some ideas:
- books
- candles
- vases
- silk floral arrangements
- plants
- fabric
- wool blankets, quilts, sheets
- trays
- bottles
The table runner is a find from the Target Dollar Spot last Christmas, along with the small lanterns I recently found in the 4th of July section. I also found the plastic plates, paper napkins, and red placemats for just a few dollars each at Target. Love that place.
Using my everyday flatware and jars for glasses I already had keeps the cost down. I also had the candles that I simply added to the lanterns. I’m all about doing things free or on a budget.
For the vintage items I gathered some old dishes, Thermos’ and blue books, a baseball, and a crock of silk flowers. I then checked my 4th of July decor box and grabbed a flag bunting, and a few flags.
Tip: Use different heights to create interest.
I decided the centerpiece need to have something tall so I made some fun pinwheels to add to the height of the centerpiece. Go here to see the tutorial to make your own pinwheels.
I filled the glass vase with Red Hots candy I got from the Dollar Store and put the pinwheels and a few flags in it. I think it turned out cute for a 4th of July centerpiece.
I started filling in with my vintage items. I tucked the flag bunting in the back of the truck, stacked a couple of books topped with the baseball and crock of flowers.
Tip: Use a variety of items in different sizes.
The tray is in the silver color that I’ve used in other places on the table. I will be using it for serving hot dogs and hamburgers. The other old dishes will also be used for serving. I think they add to the overall look and color of the tablescape. The Thermos’ are just cute and old, but match.
Just a few more touches like the red polka dot straws and poppers on each place setting completes the 4th of July tablescape for me. It’s really fun.
