Where Is My Christmas Spirit?

First of all, congrats to BRITTANY FOWLER!  She won Brittany’s favorite things.  Brittany, Brittany will be in touch with you.  Ha!

I think I’m lost in the madness of the season!

I don’t know what happens during this time of year that makes each day just a hair more stressful than usual. Okay, a lot more stressful. Which is weird considering this is a time for cozy nights with warm socks and hot chocolate, nostalgic reflections of holiday joy, and

ADORABLE DACHSHUNDS DRESSED UP FOR CHRISTMAS.

It should feel fun and relaxing and merry!

Being a busy mom and grandmother I found myself asking myself this question while going in and out of 50 different stores, not feeling well, and a million things on my “to do” list.  WHERE IS MY CHRISTMAS SPIRIT?

I still haven’t baked my usual sugar cookies or made any candy.  I haven’t wrapped any gifts.  Nope, not one.  And I have yet to put my Christmas cards in the mail.  In years past I remember feeling the same things.  You have to admit that as moms and busy women we have quite a bit to do during this time of year.  Every year I wonder why I didn’t start earlier and I make plans to do better the next year.

But, you know what!  I still have three days.

It doesn’t matter that not all the Christmas decor is up, that I probably won’t get to the baking, or that I won’t be able to wrap all my presents just so.  I need to remember I have already done so very much.  I put together an amazing Thanksgiving for my whole family.  I did get to help with several service projects and offered my time to help a few people to have a better Christmas.  I did get some decor up and I did write a family letter expressing my love to my loved ones.

Now, to make the next three days the best ever I’m going to crank the Christmas music, wrap my presents, and watch some of my favorite Christmas movies.  I’m going to go take a ride around to see the lights, visit a nativity, and keep the true meaning of Christmas in my heart.

And

I’m going to remember that lifting and improving my “Spirit of Christmas” will hopefully lift others around me… especially to those who are feeling hopeless and lifeless.

So, I say, indulge in whatever brings you joy this season, and don’t worry about the rest. Just be the best version of you in all you do, and know that you are good enough!

Whew! That’s a relief.

Dru About Dru

There are so many things I could say but I will just start with the basics. Mother to 4. Grandmother to 11 (Yes, 11. All under the age of 9.) I am a former Army wife and we spent 15 years traveling around the world. It was such a thrill to have seen so many places and meeting lifetime friends. I spent many years working in the craft industry and love getting together with friends and creating. I have a lifelong love of thrift shops, antiques, and yard sales.

DRU you are always so insightful. Thank you for sharing. It has taken me this whole season to realize just that. I too have learned that so much more can be done instead of focusing on my husband doesn’t have a job, how can we pay the bills. I weed given the chance to serve someone in our ward yesterday and the feeling of Christmas returned. I feel that I have wasted my whole Christmas season. But like you I am going to step it up and have fun serving my family and friends. Love you.
