Feed The Birds

DAY THREE OF CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN….

I’m so enjoying this series of posts.  It gives me a little extra motivation to accomplish the little extra things I’ve always wanted to do.  Making this bird feeder is one of them.  Here’s a fun activity that the whole family will enjoy.  I love being able to sit inside my warm house and watch out the window as a bird fills his tummy.

Here’s the recipe:

3 pkgs. of Knox plain gelatin

1 cup of warm water

6 Tbl. light corn syrup

1 1/3 cups flour

8 cups wild bird seed

cooking spray

In a large bowl dissolve the gelatin in the warm water.  Add the corn syrup and flour and mix well.  Add the bird seed and stir until it’s coated well. Spray a bundt pan with cooking spray and add the bird seed mixture.  Pat it tightly in the pan.  Let sit for 36 hours.  Turn out the bird feeder and continue to let dry and harden for another 12 hours.  Tie a wide ribbon at the top and hang.

I’m happy with this shape because there’s plenty of space for the birds to stand.  If you live in a wet climate you may want to place the feeder out of the moisture.

Sit back and relax with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the magic of nature.
