I’ve been seeing alot of crows and owl decor for Halloween and wanted to get in on the action. My local dollar store carries these cute crows and I also had these old bed springs I picked up at a flea market that I thought would make some great stands. I think candle sticks or spools would also work.
I picked up a wood disc at the craft store and already had some black and orange paper, ribbon, and a variety of ephemera.
I painted the wood disc in orange and once it dried I sanded it for a vintage feel. I next cut some circles from my paper and Mod Podged those on top. When it was dry I sanded again. I glued the disc onto the top of the spring and set aside.
Next, I cut two 12″ strips of my orange paper in 1″ widths. I glued the two strips together on their short sides, fan folded the long strip, and then glued the other ends together forming a circle. I repeated these steps with my black and white paper in 3/4″ widths.
The crow hat was made from half of a 6″ circle. I then covered the hat with Mod Podge and sprinkled it with clear glitter. Once it was dry I glued a trim around the bottom edge and then glued it on the crow’s head.
I then glued the fan folded collars in place around the crow’s neck, tied a ribbon around his ankle and glued it onto the top of the disc.
I love it and had so much fun making it. In fact, I made two.
